Beaded curtains are made of beads that are attached to one another through a string and hung on the curtain rod. Similar to beaded curtains, ribbon curtains function the same way. Instead of beads, ribbon curtains are made of thin strips of fabric that are hung on the curtain pole. Sometimes ribbon curtains can also include beads. This makes for a bead and ribbon curtain combination.
Beaded curtains are typically useful for doorways and partitions because they are easy to open and move through; just part them with your hands. However, beaded curtains can also function beautifully as window treatments. With the improved insulation properties of windows, modern window treatments can now focus on decoration rather than insulation. You probably would not want to use beaded or ribbon curtains for insulation but they can be very colorful and really bring character to a plain room.

Ribbon curtains are similar to beaded curtains except they do not reflect light the same way as the beads do. Remember that when you have the windows open and the ribbon shades closed, the ribbons will move with the wind, casting moving shadows in the room. This is a desirable effect and the reason that people prefer these types of curtains
