Blackout Curtains

Blackout Curtains and Drapes

Blackout curtains or sometimes called blackout linings or blackout drapes are curtains that block out light completely. Blackout curtains are used for several purposes. One is to block out light during the morning so that you can sleep. Another is to block out light for watching TV or movies during the day. Finally, blackout curtains typically offer some noise insulation.

Blackout curtains are used in almost every major hotel for the purpose of keeping the room dark at any hour of the day for you to sleep. Blackout curtains are crucial for people who have night shift jobs. People with night shift jobs need a good, restful sleep during the day. Even a small amount of sunlight shinning through cracks of curtains can make the room unbearable for sleeping. Therefore, blackout curtains are important to keep the room pitch black for someone to feel as if it is nighttime.

Blackout curtains are also useful for when you want to watch TV or movies during the day. Glare in your TV screen from your windows during the day can disrupt what you are watching. Blackout curtains can create the movie theater atmosphere and allow you to watch your TV and movies without bothersome glare from your windows.

Blackout curtains typically have both noise and thermal insulation properties. This is because when people use blackout curtains, they usually want the room to be dark, quiet and not fluctuating in temperature. Most blackout curtains have some sort of thermal insulation to keep out the sun light heat and keep an air conditioned room cool in the summer time. In the winter time, the blackout curtains will keep your room by keeping the heat from your heater or fireplace inside. Many blackout curtains will also have noise insulation properties so that along with keeping the room dark, it can also keep noises from the outside from disturbing you while you are sleeping.

Blackout curtains can come as an additional lining to your standard curtains or drapes. Sometimes this is referred to blackout lining for drapes or curtains because it is a lining in addition to another window treatment. Blackout curtains are typically only used for their functional purposes and not for making your windows beautiful. Therefore, it is not uncommon to see even sheer curtains and drapes work together with blackout curtains to offer a complete, functional and decorative window covering solution.
