Blackout Drapes
Blackout drapes are used for darkening a room completely. In fact, most drapes are used for that purpose one way or another. Curtains on the other hand, are used to regulate the amount of light that shines in a room. Drapes typically are installed on the outermost layer and are used to blackout a room.
Blackout drapes can be made in two different ways. One way is to choose a fabric that is very dark in color or does not allow light through. Most fabric will allow some light through so it is difficult to find a fabric that is thick enough to block out all light. For most people, if the drape blocks out most of the light, it is enough. However, there are drapes that need to be used for bedrooms where even a small amount of light can wake up the sleeping person. The most common way to make a blackout drape is
to install a blackout layer behind the drape. Even the darkest and thickest drape will probably allow some light through. However, by using a blackout liner, you can use thinner drapes of any material and color. Therefore, the best solution is to go with a blackout liner. Most hotels use blackout liners as customers may be sleeping at any time of day. The blackout liners are different from thermal liners. Thermal liners typically have a silvery material that reflects heat. Blackout liners are usually made of
tight stitch cloth that does not let light through but allows the drapes to breathe.
Certain rooms may require blackout drapes. The bedroom and living room are two examples. Even a glimmer of light from the morning sun can wake up someone from their restful sleep. Therefore, blackout drapes are advantageous for the bedroom to darken the room completely so that you can sleep to any hour you desire. If you watch TV in the living room, you probably realize how disturbing it is to have the sun shine on your TV set and glare out the picture. By drawing close the blackout drapes, you can watch TV with
comfort.
There are many places for you to buy blackout drape linings. Most department stores will sell them. You can also look at online stores as well. Remember to thoroughly do your research and understand the benefits and drawbacks of certain blackout linings.
