Cellular Shades

Cellular Shades | Honeycomb Shades

Cellular shades, or sometimes called honeycomb shades, are distinctive in that they form a hexagonal shape when lowered or closed. The purpose of the hexagonal shape is to create air pockets that improve insulation. When the shades are opened the shapes neatly fold away so that no additional space is necessary.

Insulation
One of the main reasons you may want to purchase cellular shades is for its insulation abilities. Remember that in a home, the windows lose the most amount of heat during the winter and allow the most amount of heat to come in during the summer. Therefore, window treatments that offer additional insulation will help those heating and air conditioning bills. The design of the cellular or honeycomb shades uses the same idea as a double pane window. The air pocket in the cellular shade helps to limit the transfer of heat from one side of the shade to another. There are different types of cellular shades as well with some suite more for insulation and others more for lighting moderation. Some have double honeycomb design for maximum insulation.

Light Moderation
Cellular shades also offer light moderation abilities. However, unlike blinds, cellular shades can not allow you to see through or change the light moderation when the shades are closed. Cellular shades however, can come with different fabrics and materials that offer a more beautiful look when closed. Most cellular shades are translucent. This means that some amount of light will come through during the day but you can not see outside when the shades are closed. Cellular shades are useful for rooms with a high number of large windows.

Maintenance
Cellular shades are easy to maintain. Usually, you can buy cellular shades with material that repels dust and is resistant to stains. Typically, those are made with aluminum or some plastic material that does not attract dust. To keep your cellular shades clean, you will need to periodically wipe off the shades.

As you can see, cellular window shades are a great option for window coverings. They are functional and beautiful for your room. You can do some research online as there are many online stores selling cellular shades.
