Patio Door Window Treatments

Patio doors are in reality, large windows that allow a lot of light through. They also must open and close frequently for people to walk through. Window treatments and coverings for patio doors should be able to moderate the light as well as open completely so that it does not hinder entry and exit.

A few popular window coverings for patio doors include vertical blinds, vertical panels and solar meshes.

One of the most popular window coverings used for patio doors are vertical blinds. Vertical blinds can block out the light when closed and open completely for someone to walk through the patio door. There are many different types of vertical blinds that are suitable for patio doors. Polyester vertical blinds allow translucent light through during the day for that warm feeling. To block out the light completely, aluminum blinds will do the trick. Also, make sure that the vanes can rotate 180 degrees so that you have the maximum control of the amount of light to let in our keep out.

Vertical panels are similar to draperies except they are in a single panel and used with a one way draw traverse rod. You can add a bit more decoration to the vertical panels by putting valances that hang on the top. Make sure the valances match the draperies so you don’t get a clash of colors. If you decide to have valances, make sure that they do not hang too low as to disturb someone from walking through the patio door.

Solar mesh sliding panels can also be used as window coverings for patio doors. These panels are typically made from PVC and provide insulation as well as reduce the sun’s glare. A headrail, typically made of aluminum, allows you to draw the sliding panels to the left or right based on your choice.

In summary, remember that when choosing a patio door window treatment or covering, consider the amount of light you want to block and let through since the patio door is usually a very large window. Second consider the ease of opening and closing the window covering to allow entry and exit. Finally, don’t forget that the drapes, curtains or shades that you use are quite large so you want to make sure the colors and texture match you’re the decoration style of your room.
