Pleated Shades

Pleated Shades

Pleated shades are constructed with a single layer of pleated material. Sometimes these shades will have a backing for extra insulation and light shielding function. Pleated shades are usually a less expensive alternative to cellular shades. The pleats are typically spaced evenly horizontally and the cords for pulling up and releasing the shades run up and down the pleats.

Pleated shades do not offer the same level of insulation as cellular or roman shades. The single layer doesn’t have air pockets that prevent heat from traveling from one point to another. However, you have the option to add an insulation layer and that would make the pleated shades much more insulation friendly. Pleated shades offer you with many choices for fabrics and designs at a reasonable price.

There are many different types of fabrics to choose from for your pleated shades. You can choose from various degrees of transparency. For a room that needs a lot of light such as the living room, you will want to choose a sheer fabric. For other rooms such as the bathroom, you will want something that is more private so that you can have your privacy. Remember that you can always add an inner lining for privacy reasons.

Pleated shades are very similar to cellular shades in terms of functionality and even look. Pleated shades are usually more economical because of the single layer of material but can be made to function just as well as cellular shades by adding an inner layer. One idea is to add vertical blinds with matching material as the pleated layers inside. However, make sure that you don’t clutter up your windows. If your window has a great view, you probably want to use the least amount of window covering as you can.

There are many vendors online that sell a variety of window coverings. Before you buy, make sure you do you understand the benefits and drawbacks of the various types of window treatments. You can usually find pictures and descriptions that tell you more about pleated shades vs. other types of window coverings so that you can make the best choice for your home.
