Roller Shades

Roller shades are the simplest form of window shades and can be purchased at a very reasonable price. Roller shades typically have a roller on the top with the shade opening and closing vertically. The rollers have a spring such that it always wants to roll the shades up. However, if you pull down slowly a locking mechanism will activate such that the shades will be prevented from rolling up. This is how you open the roller shades; you just pull down slowly. However, you can deactivate the locking mechanism if you pull down fast and let go of the shade. This allows the shade to roll up.
Roller Shades

Roller shades help shield out the rays of the sun. Many roller shades are also black out shades meaning that they completely block out the sunlight to darken the room. To moderate the amount of like you usually can open roller shades half way. There are some roller shades that are translucent and allow in some light while they are closed. However, the material for roller shades has to be somewhat sturdy to be able to handle the up and down opening and retracting rolling motion it has to endure every day. Therefore, you wonĄŻt see very thin sheer roller shades. Sheer or thin fabric will need to be replaced much too often to be used for roller shades.

Although roller shades serve to darken the room, they do not insulate your home. Unlike cellular shades or roman shades, roller shades are typically thin and do not offer insulation protection. The act of blocking out the sunlight will keep your room cooler. At the same time, keeping the shades down in the winter will be better than having no window coverings at all. However, roller shades normally do not offer any additional insulation functions other than what a standard window shade can offer.

In terms of decoration, roller shades do not offer too many choices. Most of your decoration choices will involve the color and material for the shade. You wonĄŻt get the nice flaps from roman shades or cloud shapes from balloon shades. For practical purposes, roller shades are a good choice based on cost and economy. You can find many vendors that sell roller shades online.
