Shower Curtains

Shower Curtains

Although shower curtains do not usually cover the windows in a bathroom, they are an essential curtain for keeping your bathroom from getting splashed by the water from the shower. At the simplest form, shower curtains can be made of some vinyl or plastic material and hung around the bathtub on a curtain rod. If the bathtub is recessed, the shower curtain can be hung straight across the opening rather than turning corners around the bathtub. The bottom of the shower curtain is placed inside of the bathtub when someone is taking a shower so that the water run off from the curtain will run into the bathtub and not onto the bathroom floor.

Standard shower curtains usually come in two layers. The inner layer is typically made of plastic or vinyl material and is used to shield the water from the outer layer. The inner layer is the “functional” part of the shower curtain as its purpose is to keep the water from the shower inside the bathtub. The inner layer is typically transparent or a solid color while the decoration is left for the outside layer. Another function of the shower curtain is for privacy so that someone can not look in. However, unless you have someone else in the bathroom who shouldn’t be there, most people don’t use shower curtains for privacy reasons as much.

The outside layer is the decorative layer. This is the part of the shower curtain that you can design using your imagination. You can, of course, choose from a variety of available materials and colors for your shower curtain. Many shower curtains are available pre-made so all you have to do is slip it on to your curtain rod. There are curtain rods that attach easily to the wall via an internal spring and rubber capped ends which makes it a very easy do it yourself project. Once you have taken care of the curtain rod, it’s on to the shower curtain. When choosing materials, make sure that you choose fabric that is sturdy and can be washed easily. Compared to other types of curtains, shower curtains will be used more heavily and be exposed to heavy amounts of moisture. If you choose a sheer and delicate material, your curtains will surely not last long. One suggestion is to use terry cloth material for the outside layer to create a lush and sumptuous feel. You should wash the shower curtain often to make sure that mildew or mold does not develop.

As you have learned from this article, shower curtains do not have to be plain and can be as fashionable as you can imagine. Just make sure that maintain it by keeping it clean.
