Vertical Blinds

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds, sometimes called track blinds, have slats that hang vertically. They are opened and closed by drawing the slats left or right. They can also be rotated up to 180 degrees to allow various amounts of light through. Vertical blinds are good for large picture windows and sliding glass doors. Typically, these blinds are made from hardened fabric, vinyl, plastic or metal. Light weight materials that are translucent tend to be the best types of materials for vertical blinds.

There are some tips on deciding if vertical blinds are right for your room. First look at the size and shape of the window. If the window wider than taller, then vertical blinds are a good choice. If the windows are tall and narrow, you will have to use horizontal blinds. Next consider if the window will need to open for someone to walk through. For example, a sliding glass door is better suited for vertical blinds as when the blinds are retracted, the entry and exit is not obstructed.

Vertical blinds also have the widest range of light moderation ability compared to any other window treatment. Vertical blinds can be closed to block out light completely. The slats can also be translucent such that daylight can enter even when the blinds are closed. The slats can rotate 180 degrees so that they can moderate light to any degree you prefer. If you want the full amount of light, you can just open the vertical blinds and you will see the window in full view.

Vertical blinds are fairly easy to install. First you need to decide if you want to install them inside or outside of the window casement. If you decide to install them inside, make sure that you have enough of a clearance so that the blinds are flush with the window and do not protrude out. If you decide to install the vertical blinds on the wall, you can mount them out of the way of the window so that when they are retracted, you can see the window completely.

When choosing vertical blinds, look for ones that match the décor of your room and are easy to clean. As with any window treatments, you will need to clean them from time to time to remove the dust build up. Make sure you read the manufacturers directions on how to maintain your vertical blinds looking as beautiful as the day you bought them.
