Window Rod Uses
The primary function of window rods and poles are to hold up window treatments such as drapes and curtains. There is also a decorative component of window rods as well. Window rods need to be light weight, sturdy and fit the d¨¦cor of window coverings. In the case of tiered or layered window treatments where drapes, valances and cascades all exist, there may be a need for more than one window rod or pole. In those instances, it is important to select the right set of window rods so that all of them can work together. Some solid wood window poles can add to the decoration of room. The end pieces or finals can even be hand carved. For those types of window poles, you want to have curtains that have large rings so that you expose the rod instead of cover it. Still, in other instances, you may only want your window rod to hold up a curtain and be invisible. In that case you can add a valance or cornice to shield out the curtain rod.

Window Rod and Pole Types
Curtain poles are typically made of wood or metal. These poles are differentiated by their thickness, number of brackets, rings and finals. The finals are probably the most important decoration piece. This is why when you are flipping through a catalog or looking online for curtain poles, you will usually see the finals in the picture. Curtain rods and poles come in many types. There are special rods for arched windows and bay windows. If you have a metal door or metal around your window frame, you can use a magnetic curtain rod. However, magnet rods are only recommended for sheer or light curtains as they will not be able to hold up heavy drapes. Antique curtain rods are also a favorite among window d¨¦cor enthusiasts.
