Window Shutters
Sometimes you want a window treatment that does not involve curtains as they may be too cluttering. Window shutters may be a good solution for this type of situation. Window shutters typically fold away to the side when opened and blend in with the architecture of the window frame. Some window shutters will have slats that can be opened similar to those of horizontal blinds. This offers a blended solution in which the window shutters can help shield out some of the light from the sun
during the day and provide some privacy as well.
Window shutters also can be installed both inside and outside of the window sill. Window shutters that are installed inside are called interior window shutters and window shutters that are installed outside are called exterior window shutters. The advantage of interior window shutters is that you don’t have to reach outside to close the shutters. The disadvantage of interior shutters is that they may take up valuable space on your window sill or wall that you might want to use for something else such as a painting
or bookcase.
There are also many different types of materials for window shutters. The most common is wood since when they are opened they blend in well with the rest of the architecture of the home. They are also rigid so they can offer some protection in instances of bad weather such as heavy winds. Another material used for window shutters is vinyl. Vinyl shutters have advantages over wood in that they last longer and are easier to maintain. To clean you just wipe or hose it down if they are exterior shutters. Vinyl shutters
have become very popular for those reasons. Another type of shutters called roller shutters are mostly for industrial and external use. They are similar to blinds in that they can be rolled up but when they are extended, they are typically rigid and can offer protection for the window.
There are many types of window shutters out there. Before you buy, make sure you do your research and determine (1) if you need interior or exterior shutters, (2) what kind of material to use for the shutters and (3) how the shutters will fit in the overall design and look of your windows. Also, remember that there are many different types of window treatments available and shutters may not be your best option. Always do your research first.
