Wood Blinds

Wood blinds are window blinds made of wood. Wood has many features that make it an excellent material for blinds. Wood, unlike metal or aluminum blinds, gives the natural and warm feel to a room. Additionally wood blinds can also be painted or stained to match the d¨Ścor of the room

Faux Wood Blinds
There are also faux wood blinds which have the look of wood but are actually made of PVC. These may fit well for certain applications such in the bathroom where there is a lot of moisture or in the kitchen where there is a lot of heat. These blinds have the similar look as wood but are longer lasting and more durable than natural wood.

Basswood Blinds
You can choose various types of wood for your blinds depending on your style and preference. One of the common ones is basswood. Basswoods are typically used for high quality wood blinds. Basswood is light-weight, making the raising and lowering of the blinds is easier. As with any wood blind, if you do choose the natural look, you may notice that the panels may differ as natural wood will not look exactly the same. If this is an issue, you should consider getting the wood pre-painted or stained. However, we suggest that you buy the wood already treated instead of trying to treat the wood blinds after you buy them.

Bamboo Wood Blinds
Another popular material for wood blinds is bamboo. Bamboo is light-weight and grows much faster than wood. Some trees can be over a hundred years old while bamboo only takes a couple of years before it can be harvested. This makes bamboo the more economical and environmentally friendly choice.

Installing Wood Blinds
Wood blinds typically come in one or two inch wide strips. Make sure that you measure carefully before installing. Wood blinds can be installed either inside or outside of the window casing. If you are mounting on the inside, the window opening should be at two to three inches deep depending on how wide the strips you choose. Remember to read the manufacturers?installation directions carefully as different wood blinds will vary in how they are installed. If you are mounting outside, make sure the headrail overlaps the window opening by at least one and a half inches on each side.

Before you buy wood blinds, make sure that you look around and do your research. You should make sure you have at least looked at and felt the wood material so that you wonĄŻt be disappointed when you buy it. Also make sure you understand how to take care of them and how to clean them so that they will last for a long time.
